Oviedo School of Mines is a full member of IFMMS since 1988, as well as most European School of Mines and the Science and Engineering Faculty of Laval University at Quebec (Canada). The members list is shown in the left column.

Its main target is the exchange of:

Internal Management

The superior management body in IFMMS is its Congress, at which every single one of its member Schools is represented. There is Congress General Meeting on a yearly basis, to review all the activities carried out since last meeting, and to plan those to be carried out during the year in front. It also updates and approves the organization accounts.

Next Congress will be held by Bochum School of Mines, during last week in November 1996.

At every Congress, one of the members is appointed to the posts of Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer, rotating every year.

If you wish more information about this issue, the IFMMS Statutes are published in the WWW server of Aachen University (Germany).

International Students Weeks

Also referred by their acronym: ISW, they are the best known activity of the organization, because the students themselves play the main role. During every ISW the students from the participant Schools live together for a week, allowing them to know the situation of their future profession in other countries. The host School organises a wide range of visits of both technical and cultural interest, in order to gain knowledge of the industry, the University and the way of live of the area where that particular School is based.

Every School hosts an ISW every year, to which two representatives of all others Schools members of IFMMS are invited. All costs concerning food and accomodation are covered by the Host School, while the travel expenses are the only costs to be faced by the others participant Schools.

Oviedo Representatives Selection

The proccess followed in Oviedo International Secretariat to elect our representatives for every ISW, at which our School is invited is described here:
  1. Once the invitation to take part in an ISW is received, it is published in the main hall IFMMS notice board, so any School student interested can register him or herself before the deadline.
  2. After that deadline, a toss among all the registered elects one person, who then may choose any other student from the School as his/her travel-mate. It is intended to give options to all students, so the ones that have never before joined an ISW, get preference.
  3. The elected representatives have to pay the trip with their own money, but they can recover part or the full amount if the Students Vicerectorship accepts the application dealt from this International Secretariat to reimburse the travel expenses.

From here, we would like to invite all students in Oviedo School of Mines to take part in this interesting activity.

The responsibles for this area are: María del Campo (6th year) and Ceferino Cernuda (5th year).
