These jukeboxes differ from the respective models without the trailing `s' by using SCSI control instead of a serial line. Internally, however, the SCSI commands are transformed to serial commands. The advantage of these models is the pure SCSI connection; disadvantages include the need for another free SCSI ID for the robot, and more importantly, the throughput under high load can be worse than the serial models. This is due to inherent problems of the transformation of SCSI commands into serial commands.
For NSM Mercury and Satellite jukeboxes with Plextor drives, iXOS-JUKEMAN supports accelerated insertion of CDs. To use this feature, enter an additional line "ftoc=<file name>" in the device description file. The server will use this file to store information normally read in the first few seconds after a CD is inserted into a drive. If the same CD is inserted into the same drive at a later time, the server will send this information to the drive, so the drive will not need to read it from the CD. The drive will be ready to read data a few seconds earlier, and the clients accordingly will get the data a few seconds earlier.
